Phillies Report Card

Welp, that was sort of a downer.

Fans were going nuts, the Cit was looking great, beautiful weather, nothing could have been better...and then the game started and the phirst phour Phils struck out.

Report Card:
Starter: Cole Hamels. B+
Except for the 2nd, Cole was Cole. He did his job, kept us in the game. He wasn't great, but this wasn't the Nats lineup either. He even got the 1st hit of the game. It's hard to fault him for the job he did, and he pitched well enough to win.
Relievers: Tom Gordon. C-
Tommy, Tommy. You started out so well. 2 K's on the first 2 batters you faced. Looking like Flash from pre All-Star game form last year. And then you showed Philly fans why Holliday is a LEGIT MVP candidate.
J.C. Romero. A
John Charles did his job again. He has been the most consistant reliever down the stretch run.
Brett Myers. A
Brett did his job, and is looking like he could develop into a great big game closer. He shut the door and kept them in the game.
Lineup: All of them. F
They let Cole down, they let the city down. The only spark was back to back dingaars by Rowand and the Bat, but even that was slightly demoralizing because Burrell's ball wouldn't have cleared any other major league park fence. Not even the Mexican Brad Pitt (Carlos Ruiz) could save them.
Manager: Charlie Manuel. B
I don't have a problem with him bringing in Bourn and not stealing. He really didn't get the opportunity to run, and if you leave your players on the bench their not gonna help anyway.
Fans: B
Listening to 610am on the way back from the game, many callers were bitching about how we lacked energy and spark. Listen up, idiots...those callers are too caught up in wanting to be a fan in the spotlight. Sometimes Philly fans get caught up in the rebel badass fantasy because we booed Santa and a quasi-paralyzed Irvin (which I don't have a problem with, he's a punk). I was there for all 9 agonizing innings. It was a good game, cept for the Fightins' sticks. That's how baseball is played, especially when one pitcher just shuts down another team. Suck it up, cheer for the Phils, boo the Rocks, and fight some idiots. But don't get the idea that your the show. We did good today considering we haven't had playoff baseball since '93.

That link is for Chase Utley, King of the White Girls. After today's performance, maybe we re-think that, eh? Let's hear some nominations.

Anyway, the real reason they lost was because of me. That's right, I'll take the blame for this one. I wore the unlucky blues. We all know by now that red is the preferred color, and I should have thought of the baseball gods before I threw on my blue Chutley. Plus, you gotta wear red when you have so many Japanese connections on the team. Manuel, Gooch, red is a good luck color in Japan. I'll rethink my wardrobe for tomorrow.

Since I won't be there and will be listening to the game on the radio, no diary for tomorrow's game either. Pics will be up soon from today's game, prolly tomorrow.

fugett: from inning 2 until inning 6 the crowd was silent. jimmy's 2nd ab there wasnt even a faint MVP chant!!!! before the rocky 2nd and after we came back, yes, the crowd was good, but on the whole i thought it was better over the weekend. granted we won 2 of 3 but i just felt like there were a decent amount of fair weather fans who have the money to pay 300 bones a ticket there. i mean, you were there, but thats the take me and my boy got from the tv.
